The Buffalo Sabres started the game with good pressure, but still managed to give up a goal exactly one minute into the game.

Bryan Little was left in front of the net alone and buried his chance to score the only goal of the period. However, Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller was fairly busy, facing nine shots, one of which came on a breakaway. Buffalo's effort earned them plenty of boos from fans as they exited the ice.

Buffalo will enter the second period with the power play and will need to be better in the defensive zone if they want to earn the two points they desperately need.
