After one of their worst periods of the season, the Buffalo Sabres were able to score three unanswered goals in a comeback effort to defeat the Boston Bruins 4-2.
The first period was filled with firsts, as Drew Stafford scored his first goal of the season, while Boston's Dougie Hamilton answered with his first career NHL goal. The Sabres then played a sloppy second period, but only gave up one goal to Rich Peverley after the puck bounced off the back wall and onto his stick. The Sabres were booed off of the ice after the second period, leaving them with much to think about going into the third period.
"The guys in the room were angry," head coach Lindy Ruff said after the game. "We talked about, the execution part, the battling harder on the pucks, getting to the holes a little quicker because we weren't quite in sync."
The Sabres came out with fire and Tyler Myers came to life just two minutes into the period when he buried a rebound after Jochen Hecht was stopped on a chance. Christian Ehrhoff gave the Sabres the lead with a wrist shot from the point just seven minutes later, and not even three minutes after that, Myers setup Cody Hodgson for the fourth goal of the game.
The Sabres also tightened up defensively, only allowing three shots for Boston in the third period after giving up 29 shots through the first two periods. Ryan Miller held the Sabres in the game, posting 30 saves in the game. Boston's loss is just their second in regulation, with their last regulation loss coming to Buffalo on Jan. 31.
Buffalo's win does come with a price as Andrej Sekera left the game with an injured right leg. Ruff later confirmed that "he will miss some time."
The Sabres will be in action next on Sunday when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins at the First Niagara Center at 12:30 pm.
