The Buffalo Sabres were unable to continue with the momentum they built after the first two games, as they dropped a 6-3 decision to the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Sabres fell behind 2-0 in the second period, but were able to claw their way back to tie the game. Unfortunately for the Sabres, they gave the Hurricanes their two-goal lead right back and fell behind 4-2 at the end of the second period.
The Sabres made the game interesting when Jason Pominville scored his second goal of the night on a pretty backhand pass from Thomas Vanek. The comeback was short-lived for Buffalo when Carolina captain Eric Staal scored the next two goals to complete his hat trick.
Jhonas Enroth was in goal for Buffalo tonight and suffered yet another loss. Enroth hasn't won a start since Nov. 26, 2011 against the Washington Capitals. Enroth is currently riding a 12-game winless streak.
The Sabres will be right back in action against Carolina Friday night at the First Niagara Center. Ryan Miller is expected to be in net for Buffalo and the Sabres will hope to avenge tonight's loss and split with Carolina during the home-and-home series.
