The Rochester Americans, AHL farm team of the Buffalo Sabres, named Kevin Porter this year's team captain.
Porter was signed in the offseason from the Colorado Avalanche. The 26-year-old has spent parts of five seasons in the NHL. The former Hobey Baker winner has 25 goals and 20 assists in 163 NHL games. He last appeared in the minors in 2009-10 and was signed to a two-way deal by Buffalo to provide depth at center.
Defenseman T.J. Brennan and winger Mark Mancari will serve as alternate captains.
The Amerks open their season at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at home against the Syracuse Crunch.
